How does discrimination and prejudice affect mental health in the LGBTQ+ community? How do these issues impact individuals on a day-to-day basis?

I can't speak for all LGBTQ+ people, but I can say it hurts when someone comes after you for no reason other than being who you are. I didn't choose to be trans, I just am, and when someone makes that a point of contention it makes you feel awful about yourself. I have learned that a great deal of the hatred stems from ignorance, so my first response these days is usually one of reaching out in an effort to help educate, but that doesn't always go to plan. Some people just refuse to see truth.
