Student heart failure caused by energy drinks...

Yes I agree, but if you only drink a few its ok. Most things you do 'excessive' can be bad for you.

I went through a phase of only drinking energy drinks, they are so addicting I couldn't think of anything else other than when I could get my next drink and where from.

I'm honestly not surprised they are killing people. I got heart palpitations for months during and after I stopped drinking them.

I'll never touch another.

sorry to hear that Lee, they can be very addictive and as you say if drank in excess not good for you. They can also cause terrible bowl problems o_O

Yep! I think they are a product that nobody would really miss if they disappeared from the market.

Although, what would we drink our vodka with?

After a night out, it wouldn't be unheard of for me to drink 10/12 double vodka and energy drink. I used to wake up with terrible palpitations. Even ended up in hospital once. But I was so addicted, I just kept doing it again and again.

I spent a month in hospital last June for an unrelated issue and was obviously forced to go cold turkey, I just haven't picked them back up again thank god.

I've never touched an energy drink because I never saw the purpose of them. I don't really get the sugar rush that everyone else gets with sugars, for example, so I never wanted to bother seeing if an energy drink would give me energy. My sister loves them, though, uses them when she's working to keep her going...I've told her they're not good for you, but you know how that goes down...

Send her this link! There are going to be so many people with health complications in 10 or 20 years, caused by overuse of energy drinks. :(

Makes perfect sense. Not just the caffeine but other stimulants in there. That is too much for the body to handle. I can't do caffeine so never tried these drinks.

I remember when energy drinks came out in the 80s! I was in art school and there was a convenient grocery store on the first level of the building and they sold refrigerated energy drinks. Jolt was the name of one of them. Some of the students would buy them so they could stay awake during the day after being up all night to meet deadlines for our projects. I don't think warnings were on the labels at the very beginning. Does anyone remember?

Just before my time. I didn't start drinking energy drinks until the late 90's when I was becoming a teenager. Pretty scary stuff really. I don't think they decided to limit the sale by age here until the 2010's potentially.

I have no idea how you can drink 4 of them a day, for 2 whole years! I think I probably have a bottle of Lucozade once or twice a year.

An ex of mine had a friend who would drink them like water, every day. He started getting chest pains and one night woke up feeling like he couldn't breathe. It scared him right out of the habit. He switched to coffee and eventually cut that out and started drinking green tea. Energy drinks are scary!

I am a coffee drinker. I drink dark coffee and black. I like those Monster cold coffee drinks every now and then but the sugar really goes through me and gives me bowel issues so I try to avoid it.

I tried drinking a regular monster once and I felt dizzy and nervous the entire day. My heart was beating rapidly and it almost felt like it was skipping a beat.

I never did it again.

I know people though who would get it in keg-form and they would party (with monster and redbull) and drink it like beer, mass amounts and stay up all night.

I don't think that would be healthy, lol.
