Mental health doesn’t just affect our thoughts — it can affect our entire body. Stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and burnout can all show up in physical ways, even when we don’t realize it.

In this thread, we’re opening up about the physical symptoms we experience that are connected to our mental health.

Some common examples include:
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Muscle tension or jaw clenching
  • Digestive issues or stomach pain
  • Chest tightness or rapid heartbeat
  • Trouble sleeping or oversleeping
  • Unexplained aches and pains
  • Skin breakouts or rashes
  • Changes in appetite
Many people don’t realize they’re experiencing psychosomatic symptoms — or that their emotional stress is being stored in the body.

What are some physical signs you notice when your mental health is struggling?

I get a rapid and uncomfortable heart beat
Chest Pain
Loss of appetite and other digestive issues
Immense fatigue, like I cannot keep my eyes open
Headaches

I think that too much stress can cause headaches. So, yes, in a round about way. It can also drain your energy a lot faster than you normally would.
